Job Summary: Complete GPS and data collection for Empire Access, Empire Telephone and North Penn Telephone (“Empire”) including both copper and fiber facilities. The job is responsible for data collection of utility poles, utility pole attachments, mapping of utility poles, and staking proposed pole and anchor locations. The pole surveyor also brings the collected data into the fiber inventory system (M4) and pole survey system (Katapult). The pole surveyor also works with the engineering team on applications and permitting, project management, CAD drawings, as-builts, and job close outs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data collection of routes planned by the engineer.
  • Assist engineer with permitting and applications.
  • Manage outside plant projects from the planning stage through to completion. This includes design, drawings, CAD, permitting and applications, make ready process, quality review and job close out.
  • Responsible for properly permitting construction projects and for maintaining maintenance permits in the various municipalities that Empire operates in.
  • Responsible for maintaining pole information in M4 and Katapult.
  • Performs other duties as necessary.

Requirements:

  • Knowledgeable in outside plant practices and the telecommunications industry.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering prints and documentation. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Must be computer literate. Demonstrated skill in managing multiple simultaneous activities in a team environment.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License.
  • Previous training experience. Strong interpersonal communications skills. Ability to work with M4, Katapult, Excel and Email.
  • Weekend/Call Responsibilities: Nights, weekends and holidays in emergency situations.

Education and Experience:

  • Associate degree from a two-year college or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five or more years of industry experience with a minimum of three years in telephony.

Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and the risk of electrical shock. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and high, precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
