Empire Access Offers Discounted Internet through the FCC Emergency Broadband Benefit Program

WHAT IS IT?

The Federal Communications Commission has launched a temporary program to help families and households struggling to afford Internet service during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Emergency Broadband Benefit provides a discount of up to $50 per month toward broadband service for eligible households.

Program enrollment begins on May 12, 2021

  

 WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

A household is eligible if one member of the household meets at least one of the criteria below: 

  • Has an income that is at or below 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines or participates in certain assistance programs, such as SNAP, Medicaid or the FCC’s Lifeline program;
  • Approved to receive benefits under the free and reduced-price school lunch program or the school breakfast program, including through the USDA Community Eligibility Provision, in the 2019-2020 or 2020-2021 school year;
  • Received a Federal Pell Grant during the current award year;
  • Experienced a substantial loss of income through job loss or furlough since February 29, 2020 and the household had a total income in 2020 at or below $99,000 for single filers and $198,000 for joint filers; or
  • Meets the eligibility criteria for a participating provider’s existing low-income or COVID-19 program.

 

HOW TO APPLY AND RECEIVE YOUR BENEFIT?

Follow the steps listed below in Part 1 and Part 2 to Apply and Receive your benefit from Empire Access.

PART 1 - Apply

  • Click Apply Now
  • Enter your information on the enrollment form (this includes Name, Date of Birth, Last 4 of social secutity number (if applicable), Home Address, and Confirming qualification and household information). You will be prompted to create an account as part of the application process.
  • Once you finish entering your application information, the system will provide a qualification status.
  • Next, you will receive a message indicating your qualification status.  If you qualify for the Emergency Broadband Benefit program, you will need to proceed to Part 2 (Receive Your Benefit from Empire Access).

PART 2 - Receive Your Benefit from Empire Access

  • Contact Empire Access at 800-338-3300 and ask to sign up for the Emergency Broadband Program.
  • Tell us you have been approved by the Universal Service Administrative Company (USOC).
  • Provide us with the same information you used on your Emergency Broadband Beneifit application. This includes Name, Date of Birth, Last 4 of social secutity number (if applicable), Home Address, and Applicaiton ID.
  • We will send you an Opt In Form for you to sign and return. This form confirms enrollment with Empire Access.
  • Once we receive your signed Opt In Form, your discount of up to $50/month will be applied to your monthly bill.
